Hamburg galt in den Jahren 1933-1945 neben Berlin als "Swing-Hochburg". Hier gastierten in den bekannten Tanz- und Swinglokalen und Unterhaltungsgaststätten berühmte Tanz- und Swingorchster, hier traf sich während des Zweiten Weltkrieges die sogenannte "Swing-Jugend". Aufgrund ihrer Begeisterung für anglo-amerikanische Swing- und Hotmusik und ihres teilweise dandyhaft geprägten äußeren Erscheinungsbildes gerieten die "Swings" schnell in einen offenen Konflikt mit den nationalsozialistischen Machthabern. Otto Bender, der bekannte Hamburger Fotograf mit seinem großen Fotoarchiv, erinnert mit diesem Bildband an eine Zeit, die von vielen unvergessen ist. Zahlreiche, bisher unveröffentlichte Photos, Berichte von Zeitzeugen und historische Hintergründe machen das Buch zu einem wertvollen Zeugnis hamburgischer Geschichte - nicht nur für Musikliebhaber.
